Akhannouch: The future looks “promising” for the aeronautics sector in Morocco

“Promising prospects” await the aviation sector in Morocco, especially since large international companies are ready to continue this important industrial process traced by HM King Mohammed VI, said Wednesday in Nouaceur the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch.

“Today we are on new perspectives given the presence of great potential in this sector” which is undergoing major change, said Mr. Akhannouch in a press statement during a visit to the aeronautical center of Nouaceur (Casablanca).

The aeronautical industry in Morocco has experienced “continuous development” since HM King Mohammed VI launched this sector at the national level two decades ago, noted the Head of Government, noting the great interest that the Sovereign attaches to this important industry.

This development is illustrated in particular in the presence of a major technological change that the sector is experiencing, and the presence of quality investments from large international groups, specified the Head of Government.

And to continue that “in 2020, the movement of the aircraft fleet in the world has stopped. It was said then that this industry had ceased definitively”, but the opposite is currently happening. In this regard, Mr. Akhannouch recalled, by way of example, that the national aeronautical sector recorded a growth of 60 pc during the first five months of 2022, just as the results obtained have improved compared to the period pre-pandemic in 2019.

Mr. Akhannouch also noted the importance of this situation which reflects the presence of national skills, executives and technicians, adding that “the secret of success in this sector is the training of young people” which the professionals of the sector and the Moroccan state”. Thanks to cutting-edge technology, the work of young people and other factors, “Morocco has been able to succeed in this sector”, welcomed the Head of Government.

Mr. Akhannouch’s visit to the Nouaceur aeronautical center included the “Safran” industrial and technological group, specializing in the fields of aeronautics, space and defence, “Midparc casablanca Free Zone” and the Institute aeronautical trades (IMA) specializing in the field of training.

Explanations on the work of the various units and the advanced technology used in the production of aircraft parts were presented, on this occasion, to the Head of Government who was accompanied by the Minister Delegate in charge of Investment, Convergence and of Public Policy Evaluation, Mohcine Jazouli, and professionals from the sector.

It is recalled that the industrial and technological group “Safran”, specialized in the fields of aeronautics, space and defence, inaugurated, on Tuesday in Casablanca, the extension of its Safran Nacelles Morocco site dedicated to the production of aircraft nacelles.

This 6,000 m2 extension will be reserved for the production of nacelles for the Airbus A320 Neo and the high-end Gulfstream G700/G800 business jets.
