La chanteuse Frida, une rebelle qui prône l’amour

Singer Frida, a rebel who advocates love

If, in philosophy, the definition of a good life is that of a being in perfect harmony with the cosmos, then Frida is definitely a happy woman! And if this artist with the eyes of light and the complexion of the milky way dances barefoot, it is because Frida is always in connection with the nourishing earth, that she draws her energy from all that life offers her, that she draws its strength from nature and its resources, from the strength of the rocks, the movement of the clouds, the breath of the wind and the backwash of the waves. So, leave your anxieties, your apprehensions, your phobias and your fears at his doorstep and prepare for a meeting on a human level. For her, happiness is a state of mind, a connection with the universe that must be reestablished, and the joy of living is first of all a choice, but that must be constantly revisited.

Frida and Simba

In his apartment on a high hill in the Lebanese mountains, we are greeted by Simba, who is not a dog, given the look he gives you, the movement of his body, his haughty gait and his strong and bodily presence? and you almost have the impression of hearing him say to you: “Welcome to my mistress, she and I, it’s a long love story!” Simba attends the interview with attention and all the affection that emerges from his eyes when he turns his head towards Frida. From the window of the apartment, we notice two cranes ripping up the earth. “It was a beautiful forest, confides the artist, that Simba and I used to walk through every morning to recharge our batteries. Deforestation was a violent act in our daily life and a period of mourning that was imposed on us, a part of myself was torn away from me, this is what pushed me also to accept a trip to Mexico to get away from the noise, like what, the universe always has hidden designs…”

Frida and the universe

Coming from the world of large companies, formerly specializing in consulting, her experimental field had no limits and Frida fought constantly for the optimization of human resources by developing organizational strategies. The music presented itself to her like a gift from heaven, she who has never made a demo, has never knocked on doors, nor taken singing lessons or played an instrument. “It’s the force of the universe that took care of carrying me,” she confides. Rather than going in search of the event that will transform your life, you just need to increase your energy and place yourself on the right frequency to establish a magnetic power that will bring things to you. When she begins her spiritual journey, Frida decides to look into the correlation between joy, intuition and creativity, and decides to write her first song. Follower of the power of the creative power of every human being, she is convinced that the man who confines himself to what he has learned to do misses out on his talents which he must discover. “Music presented itself to me as the language of expression of this reality that I perceived and of this connection that I had to establish. It allowed me to externalize all that I had absorbed for years. The state of complete being in which the music put me confirmed to me all the difference between knowledge and wisdom. I who read a book a day, I decided in 2012 to give up reading. On Google, knowledge is within everyone’s reach, on the other hand, wisdom is acquired when we appropriate this knowledge and make it our own. I was a very beautiful encyclopedia, but I didn’t have time to transform my knowledge into constructive power, music changed everything. I write all my songs when I’m in this state of being, a receptive state away from reflection. Guided by my internal voice. And if Frida composed her albums without having learned to sing, this proves for the artist how much the human being already has all the answers within him, and the power to connect and control his positive energies. “In life, everything is energy,” she says. We are vibrational beings at different densities, and it depends, like musical frequencies, on which we place ourselves. When we are on the wrong frequency, it is the law of the series, but it is enough to change frequency by controlling our mind and concentrating on the good to become our own guru and for the world to open up to everyone. When man fills and drowns with love, he becomes a miracle worker and the whole universe works for his joy. »

Frida stops in her tracks. It’s already time to leave for his next appointment. “I’ll be right back,” she says to Simba. The latter looks at her with the air of answering her: “I know…” And here we are on our way to the television station Mariam TV where Frida is invited to discuss the event, the Fête de la Musique.

Frida and TV

In the studios of Mariam TV, Frida is invited, within the framework of the program al-Waad, alongside Marielle Salloum, in charge of communication and press relations at the French Institute in Lebanon, who discusses the mission of the IFL in the transmission of culture and in the continual encouragement and support that the institute provides to artists through projects that it offers throughout the year. Frida makes the difference by entering barefoot on the set. The production manager will point out to him that the takes will be wide, and the artist puts on his flip-flops again. She, who is not used to the sets, seems at ease because Frida is like that, always good with herself. She admits that the concerts she presented were filled with love and sharing, and thanks the members of the IFL team for their determination and the importance of their mission. And to conclude: “Spreading love and joy is my mission and in the sacredness of freedom, always…”

The third meeting is looming on the horizon, towards the room where Frida finds her musicians for a final spinning.

Frida and her musicians

They are her lieutenants, her family at heart, her Hermès to spread beauty, because what Frida knows how to do best is to transmit beauty. Coffee break with thyme cakes in addition, the artist, after giving everyone a hug, brings together his musicians to give them the roadmap they will have to follow and the choice of titles that will be played at Zouk Mikaël, his fourth and last concert after Deir el-Qamar, Niha and the Sporting Club of Beirut.

The rehearsal begins, we are no longer in the same physical state. Frida’s soft and deep voice is a remedy for all ills, an answer to all questions. Is the AC high? Or is goosebumps the physical manifestation of this woman’s voice?

The melody of Sous le Ciel de Paris gives the “la”, and the rest will resemble a journey into the world of emotion, the one that each spectator will take when attending a Frida concert. It’s about pain and cure, it’s about happiness and its transmission, it’s also about bad fortune and bad luck that must be reversed and about breath, his and ours, cut to the sound of his voice and that we have to take back.

Frida on guitar, Rami Akiel sometimes plays melodica, sometimes qanoun, Scarlett Saad on piano, Patrick Abi Abdallah on drums and percussion, and Anthony Atoué on bass. Frida begins her first song Baní boomeh. The power of her voice, the scope of her timbre which seems to come from the depths of this land that she loves transports us. Ya sadiqi (My friend) addresses the theme of loneliness to be overcome because you are never alone when you have a friend, of the power of being together, to climb all the peaks and become the mountains, the sea and the ships that cross it. Ana min, a song that addresses the search for oneself or another myself, because Frida’s strength is to be the entire universe; she can be the bird that lands at her window, the tree that has just been cut down under her house, the little child who holds out his barefoot hand to her, she is the universe because the universe is in her and that, to find him, all you have to do is prepare for his coming. Frida’s music is first of all the instruments that accompany it, but it is also her palms that beat time, her voice that takes all the chords head-on, it is the beating of her bare feet on the ground and her dress which she twirls.

She begins La valse des bisous, one of her first songs in French, makes you want to kiss and hug the whole world. Except that what the artist prefers above all is to sing in Lebanese, “because it is a language whose meaning of the words is in agreement with the sound that we make when we pronounce them”, she says.

Frida and the scene

Before going on stage, the artist says he has a ritual. She isolates herself with her five musicians to meditate and unify the magnetic fields of their hearts and become a single entity. She guides them in meditation. “Once on stage,” she says, “we are connected vertically and to each other, and we often hear ourselves thinking. We have a very cooperative approach. Each of us has his own universe, his experience. Recreating the songs, thinking them all together again makes the music richer and my musicians happier. »

It’s time to leave each other, but we never leave Frida, she has taken possession of a part of us, and having heard her once, we carry her forever in our heads and in our hearts.

Frida will be performing this Saturday, June 25 at Zouk Mikaël as part of the Music Festival organized by the French Institute in Lebanon. And from September 22, on tour through Switzerland (Bern, Zurich, Friborg and Basel), and in October in Paris.
